At present there is a small herd of Devon Red cattle which are currently on Burrington Ham. They have not escaped from somewhere else, but in fact are there on purpose to help manage the grassland for wildlfe. The Devon Red is a gentle, docile grazer causing minimal damage to grassland. They will graze and thrive on marginal land and unimproved permanent pastures so are ideal for helping to manage Black Down and Burrington Ham. Please keep your dogs on a lead when near the cattle and drive slowly in Burrington Combe, as they may be crossing the road.
